Background Statement

Living 127, Inc. was founded in 2013 by two guys that have been best friends since they were seven years old.  They had been on numerous mission trips, but after visiting an orphanage in Guatemala, everything changed.  They were compelled to do more with their life and make a difference.  Through many conversations, research, and prayer, they discovered that many orphanages struggle to provide hygiene items and school supplies for the children.  They found their purpose and Living 127 was born! This name was chosen to reflect a commitment to live out the bible verse in James 1:27, which instructs us to "care for orphans in their time of need."  Living 127 was created to provide these essential items, which in turn allows the orphanages to reallocate their resources on other areas, such as taking in more children, hiring additional staff, or making improvements to the home.

The Board of Directors is committed to having 100% of all individual donations being solely used to purchase supplies for the children.  No money from our individual donors is ever used to cover Operating or Travel Expenses.  When you become part of the Living 127 team of donors, you are truly making a direct impact in the life of a child.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President

Through the ongoing support of Living 127, Inc., orphanages are able to redirect the funds they were previously using to purchase hygiene items and school supplies into other areas. This includes such things as housing more children, hiring additional staff, making improvements to the home, or providing music lessons. Living 127, Inc. is unique from most other charities in that 100% of the individual donations received go directly toward purchasing items for the children. No individual donations are used for administrative costs.

Programs
Description This program of 16-volunteers will work with our 4 orphanages in Costa Rica every 6-months. These homes support almost 100-children. This program allows us to impact the life of an orphan child through giving of time, energy, and resources. They will do repairs on the homes, help children with English and other activities, and assist with caring for babies.
Budget $16,000
Category Human Services, General/Other
Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Yes
Population Served Children and Youth (0 - 19 years) Hispanic, Latino Heritage Latin America & the Caribbean
Short Term Success
  1. The children will improve their English and experience a greater sense of well-being knowing there are many people praying, caring, and interested in their life.
  2. Volunteers with have a fuller perception of the needs of orphans in Latin America.
Long Term Success Our hope is for the orphan children to be adopted, but until then, Living 127, Inc. will be there to help.
Program Success Monitoring We will conduct a trip debrief, as well as encourage feedback throughout the experience.  This includes feedback from the orphanage directors and missionaries, as well.
Program Success Examples

The children benefit from this program in several ways.  First, their emotional stability and self-confidence improve as a result of the interaction they receive from the volunteers.  They learn English and benefit culturally from exposure to volunteers from another country.  During the previous two years, several of the younger children have noticeable improvement in their English language skills.  This will be a tremendous advantage in the future and will open many job opportunities as adults in this tourist-driven culture.
