Impact Statement
Honor Flight of West Central Florida completed four missions in 2016 and touched the lives of 303 WWII, Korea, or terminally ill Vietnam Veterans on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Washington D.C. - free of charge to the veteran.  In addition, we honored Veterans who were not able to fly during three afternoon programs "Honor Flights at Home" where the veterans received recognition for their service.

Our goals for the coming year is to reach out to all the area veterans to inform them about Honor Flights and to encourage their participation in an Honor Flight program.
Needs Statement
1. Each flight costs roughly $70,000  of which approximately half of that is paid by the accompanying guardian for each veteran. The remaining $35,000 is raised through corporate and community donations.  There are four flights scheduled for 2017 requiring HFWCF to raise  between $140, 000 - $150,000.
2. To identify and register area Veterans for an upcoming mission.
3. To identify and register people who may be interested in accompanying a Veteran on a mission to Washington, D.C.
4.  To continue to grow our Volunteer base.
Background Statement
Honor Flight West Central Florida is one of 130 Honor Flight hubs in 42 states having taken over 160,000 war veterans on Honor Flights. Our "hub" began flying missions (flights) in 2011. We have had 28 missions flights and enabled 2,107 WWII,  Korean War, Vietnam War and Gulf War veterans to be honored with a trip to Wash D. C.  and visit the memorials built in their honor. We have also conducted six "Honor Flights at Home" events for veterans who were unable to fly.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President
As president of HFWCF, an all-volunteer organization, I rely on the dedication and kindness of our volunteers to accomplish our mission: flying Veterans to Washington, D.C. to be honored in a most memorable way. While living in Washington, D.C. I had the opportunity to meet and greet the Veterans as they arrived at the airport for their visit to the memorials.  It was such an emotional time for these Veterans receiving the recognition that they so deserved - it brought tears to all our eyes.  Having shared in this experience, I wanted to continue with Honor Flight after our move to Florida. From volunteer to president, it has been a most amazing adventure knowing that we have touched the lives of so many Veterans. Although we have been successful in our mission, there is still need for growth.  To reach out to the area's Veterans we have successfully grown our Speakers Bureau providing many presentations throughout the Tampa Bay area. To meet our financial goals, we have provided information to area corporations, American Legions, VFW's and other civic organizations. To encourage the continued support of our volunteers, we recognize their efforts through various Volunteer Appreciations. The HFWCF Board of Directors represents the best of our volunteers. Their commitment to our mission is to be commended.  They give of their time and skill to make all this happen.
Programs
Description Honor Flight is a national program created solely to honor America's war era veterans for their sacrifices. Our heroes are transported to Washington D. C. at no charge to visit and reflect at their memorials. Priority is given to WW II veterans followed by Korean, Vietnam and all others.
Budget $272,000
Category Public, Society Benefit, General/Other Military & Veteran Affairs
Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Yes
Population Served Other Named Groups
Short Term Success We've identified and recognized over 2,100 war era veterans from the Tampa Bay area in the last six years. Veterans have  a sense of enhanced achievement and recognize their contribution has resulted in a better United States military and a safer world.
Long Term Success Honor Flight will only achieve it's ultimate objective if every war era veteran is identified and thanked for their service with a visit to their memorials in Washington D. C.
Program Success Monitoring With our past success of having flown 28 missions through the end of 2016,  we have four missions scheduled for 2017 with 70 veterans per flight. Flights will continue until there are no veterans on our waiting list. Feedback from veterans  that have benefitted from participation has been exceptional. Guardians/escorts that accompany the veterans  have been over whelmed with the experience.
Program Success Examples Over 2,100 war era veterans in the Tampa Bay area have been identified and recognized  in six years for their military service by an appreciative country. Guardians/escorts of an equal number have frequently commented that the experience has been something that they will never forget. Patriotism in the United States has been far more noticeable as the result of programs like Honor Flight.
Comments
Program Comments by Organization Honor Flight has been so successful nationally and particularly in the Tampa Bay area that four  flights are scheduled for 2017 from St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport.
