Background Statement

Established in 2010, the Manasota Lacrosse Club, Inc. is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization. In an effort to achieve brand consistency, MLC is officially doing business as (DBA) the Sarasota Seahawks Lacrosse Club, Inc. and still maintains its 501 (C) (3) status.  The Sarasota Seahawks Lacrosse Club encompasses boys and girls lacrosse opportunities, year-around, for children ages 5 through 17.

Since its inception, the Sarasota Seahawks Lacrosse Club has recruited, trained and maintained a highly qualified coaching staff, with collegiate and post-collegiate lacrosse experience, recreation/youth/middle school/high school/World Team coaching experience, professional personal training experience, and advanced educational degrees.

Today, all of our coaches have up-to-date background screening and most of our coaches are US Lacrosse Coach’s Education Program and Positive Coach’s Alliance certified.  A Board consisting of local business leaders, parents, and lacrosse admirers governs the Sarasota Seahawks Lacrosse Club.  Two of our Board members sit on the Board of the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of US Lacrosse, the regional Chapter of our National governing body, US Lacrosse.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President

Since 2010 the Sarasota Seahawks Lacrosse Club has witnessed tremendous growth within the Club as well as within the sport of lacrosse in our local Sarasota-Bradenton community, in Florida, and across the Country. In 2010 the Seahawks Lacrosse Club had 87 registered members.  In 2016 the club had 244 registered members.

Over the past three years, members of our coaching staff have volunteered and delivered fundamental lacrosse training lessons to Lakeview Elementary School, Island Village Montessori School, and Sarasota Christian School.

In 2014, we hired Team USA member and Professional Lacrosse Player for the Florida Launch, Casey Powell to deliver a community outreach clinic.  Casey, along with Seahawks Coaches delivered a free clinic at Riverview High School for over 80 boys and girls.

Every January we have held our annual pre-season free clinic at Twin Lakes Park to help generate interest in the sport, and to stimulate registrations for our Spring season.  We also held a free clinic at Payne Park, in the City of Sarasota in 2015.  Most recently, we agreed to volunteer our Club’s time and resources to deliver a pilot program of a series of free clinics to the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located in Newtown, Sarasota.  These clinics will be held on 3-5 Saturdays in September, October, and November 2016.

In 2015, the Club invested $3,500 to purchase a double axel, covered trailer to store protective and field equipment.  This mobile equipment storage solution allows us to effectively and efficiently store and transport our field equipment and loaner equipment.  One of our most attractive offers to perspective club members is the fact that we offer loaner equipment.  Families appreciate this benefit due to the fact that it can cost over $400 to outfit a boy for lacrosse and over $200 for a girl.  However, it is costly to maintain a stockpile of field and protective equipment.

We started our club with a genuine commitment to get as many boys and girls playing lacrosse in our local community as possible.  Further, we have made a commitment to fund as many children of need as possible.  Therefore, we are fortunate to have been able to scholarship registration fees at some level, offer payment arrangements, and provide loaner equipment to over 65 players since 2010.
