Impact Statement
We have successfully maintained our long term-care sanctuary and provided the proper medical attention to all our residents while providing them with volunteers to clean and feed them each and every day.  Our volunteers take the extra time to sit and play with them to provide a happy and satisfying life.  Over the course of the year, we have played an important role in the community to rescue many mother cats with their babies, baby kittens that lost their mother, are wonderful volunteers opened their homes to bottle feed these babies until they were ready for adoption, as well as adult cats that were abandoned by their owners.  We have seen these babies and adult cats go from an almost tragic situation to growing, getting healthy and getting adopted into loving homes.

Background Statement
Last Chance Animal Sanctuary, Inc was established in 2002 by a caring group of people.  Today, we maintain a life long no-kill sanctuary for cats with no place else to go because no one is willing to adopt them.  They live a clean, happy and safe life with all the food and medical attention they need to maintain a high quality life.  We also rescue cats and kittens from area shelters, as well as, abandoned cats and prepare them for adoption with the help of a volunteer foster network.  Everyone that is part of Last Chance Animal Sanctuary is a volunteer.  We have no paid employees.  It's for the love of these beautiful animals that everyone volunteers their time and love.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President
We long for a day when there are no homeless cats wandering the streets. Until that day happens, we will be here to help.  Our biggest challenges are to find regular donations, and volunteers to foster cats and kittens until they are adopted and to help in our long term sanctuary.  Food, litter and medical bills are the biggest expenses we have each month.  We have volunteers that are always looking for ways to raise awareness for our cause and continue to look for ways to bring in regular monthly donations and volunteers.  We recently went to a local animal services location to save a newborn kitten.  While there, we notice a senior Persian named Vlad.  Vlad's coat was severely matted and pulling on the skin and had a large tumor in his right ear.  We knew right then, we needed to take him with us.  We had his fur cut right away to ease that pain, then our Vet performed surgery on his ear.  Vlad made a great recovery and was quickly adopted into a loving home.     This is why we continue to do what we do.

Population Served US General/Unspecified Families
Short Term Success We are saving cats and kittens on a daily basis.  We provide them with a stable living arrangement until they are adopted.  We provide the community with healthy cats for adoption and provide help to inexperienced cat owners to help them gain the knowledge needed to care for the cats in their homes.
Long Term Success The long-term success of our program is a reduction in the number of cats being killed due to over population or neglect on the streets of Manatee and Sarasota counties.  We work with local animal services to immediately take in kittens that animal services cannot care for due to the amount of time and care needed to care for baby kittens and sometimes and hopefully, the nursing mom.
Program Success Monitoring We look at the number of adoptions we have each year and through those numbers, we know we are making a difference in the lives of so many cats and kittens in the community.
Program Success Examples We had over 100 adoptions in 2015 and continue to maintain over 40 long term residents in our Sanctuary.  They are living a happy, healthy, and clean life and receive all the human care and medical attention they need to live out a long life.
