Background Statement

After working for over 30 years helping people with disabilities, Dr. Anita Rothard and Donald Rothard were headed for retirement. Then Donald realized he wasn’t ready and said to Dr. Anita, "You can't do that, there is still too much we can do to help others." That is how Red Lion Jobs, Inc. (RLJ) was born according to Dr. Anita.  That was six years ago.

Their "Retirement" small business started with the idea of a one-on-one job placement and assistance program for those who were having problems finding a job, get a job.

RLJ has grown into a great not-for-profit Florida business. It provides the community of disabled Floridians a means for employment and local businesses a reliable, pre-screened and valuable employment resource.

RLJ philosophy is simple, everyone is special and has certain abilities or qualities contributable to the workplace.

Each client is assigned an Employment Specialists (ES). They guide each client through the process of preparing for work, gaining courage, and successfully securing employment. First, being every client is unique. An ES takes the time to work with and identify special qualities and inspire the individual to overcome any perceived limitations. Then the ES helps the client prepare for interviews to show just how valuable he/she can be to a business.

Each ES follows up with his/her client and employer for a period of up to 150 days to insure the placement is successful and both are satisfied. They also monitor progress during the placement time and have satisfaction surveys for both parties. It’s very important that the employer is satisfied.

Red Lion Jobs, Inc., measure success when the people we place stay on their job long term and both employer and worker are satisfied.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President

As President of the Board of Red Lion Jobs, Inc., I’m proud and humbled to be a part of an agency where you can watch an individual with disabilities life change for the better. Each day, I work with individuals that have almost given up on finding work and having a normal life. Every time we place a disabled person on a job it brings a promise of tomorrow and a future for him/her and their families.

There is nothing better than seeing the smiles and sense of pride on the faces of those who have had success in landing a job.

Our Employment Specialists take great care to find the right job for each client’s skill set. With a job comes the hope of owning a car or living independently. Through our Employment Specialists, along with our community partners, we are making differences daily changing lives, one client at a time.

I want to thank all our volunteers, our donors, and our community partners for working together with Red Lion Jobs, Inc., in helping to change lives, one individual at a time, one job at a time. Together we make a difference.

Program Success Examples

Nic's success story, "Throughout my time working with my employment specialist she has helped me narrow down what kind of position would be best suited for me and gave me the tools and confidence I needed to land a position. She helped me complete applications and get in contact with store managers over the phone to schedule interviews, went over what to say and the kind of body language I needed to have, and then proceeded to follow up with potential employers after the interview.

I definitely lacked the confidence to do many things myself due to my stutter. After a while of working with Cynthia and many words of encouragement from her I became a lot more motivated to make a change in my life. I used all the tools she gave me and decided to apply for a position at Burger King. I walked into the interview with confidence that I would get the job, and it worked! About a week later I had a second interview and got the position as soon as it was over.

It's been about three weeks and things have been going great. I absolutely love the people I work with and am so grateful to have had Cynthia in my corner backing me up. I can honestly say that without her I probably would not have found the motivation within myself to come this far."

Financials Comments
Financial Comments by Organization We’ve made great strides to make our name known within the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) offices. Yet with our contractors spread throughout Florida, the need to increase staff and back office support for staff, our expenses are expected to rise significantly in 2018. However, our only income source is VR referrals. And although we continue to aggressively market to VR, we cannot predict market saturation, or, an increase in income to balance the expected increase in expenses.
