We were able to develop the infrastructure and begin to provide two fees for service programs. We obtained and served over 65 customers and placed 20 customers into employment.

Background Statement

I thought at a certain age a person was supposed to retire. Well, I reached that age and told my husband that after working for over 30 years helping people with disabilities get their life back on track, it was time for us to retire. He looked at me with surprise on his face and said, “You can’t do that, there is still too much we can do to help others.” That is how Red lion jobs Inc. came into being. Our ‘retirement’ started with the idea that we could start a small business doing one-on-one job placement and assist those who were having problems finding a job, actually get a job. That was almost three years ago. Well, that small business is now a big business covering Florida from Orlando to Miami on both coasts. Red Lion Jobs, Inc. has grown and grown…..and is still growing.

A sister company, Diversified Rehab Inc., had been working with the State of Florida, Department of Vocational Rehabilitation developing vocational rehab plans. The vocational plans were well thought out and well received, but somehow not enough people were finding actual jobs. We thought we could do better. Red Lion Jobs, Inc. entered the picture doing direct job placement and we have an 85% success rate.

Our philosophy is that each individual is special and has certain abilities or qualities that they can contribute in the world of work. We believe our job is to identify those special qualities and to inspire the individual to overcome their perceived limitations and show those qualities to a potential employer. Our Employment Specialists work with each individual and walks with them hand-in-hand through the process of preparing for interviews, gaining courage, going forward and succeeding.

As the word spread of our success, more and more organizations began working with us as partners helping us achieve our goals. In the first quarter of 2015, we have already serviced as many people as we were able to service in all of 2014. Our partnerships include Goodwill, APD, Centers for Independent Living,………. And the list is growing.

Our goal for 2015, is to place four times as many individuals as we did in 2013. Our long-term goal is to expand our services, and depending on funding, have a Day Treatment Center in Sarasota to offer those more severely impacted an opportunity to succeed. Our “retirement” has ended up being very busy and very rewarding to us as well as those we serve.

As President of the Board of Red Lion Jobs, Inc. I feel lucky to be a part of an agency that can actually watch a life change on a daily basis. Each and every day I get to work with individuals that have almost given up on finding work and having a normal life. They often think they are not ever going to find a job. Each day when we place a disabled person on a job it brings success and a new start to someone. There is no better pay than seeing the smiles and sense of pride on the faces of those who have had success in landing a job. Through our Employment Specialists, along with our community partners, we are making a difference on a daily basis, one job at a time. Newly hired, with a promise of tomorrow, disabled individuals see a future for themselves and their families. With a job comes the hope of owning a car or living independently. Who could ask for a better job than mine? I want to thank all our volunteers, our donors, and our community partners for working together with Red Lion Jobs, Inc. in helping to change lives, one individual at a time, one job at a time. Together we make a difference.

Our organization has a dedicated team of board members dedicated donors, passionate staff, volunteers, and community partners. Short Term Success We have provided pre employment services to 25 individuals in the first year. We have provided pre employment and placement to over 60 individuals this year.

Nic's success story "Throughout my time working with my employment specialist she has helped me narrow down what kind of position would be best suited for me, and gave me the tools and confidence I needed to land a position. She helped me complete applications and get in contact with store managers over the phone to schedule interviews, went over what to say and the kind of body language I needed to have, and then proceeded to follow up with potential employers after the interview.

I definitely lacked the confidence to do many things myself due to my stutter, but after a while of working with Cynthia and many words of encouragement from her I became a lot more motivated to make a change in my life. I used all the tools she gave me and decided to apply for a position at Burger King. I walked into the interview with confidence that I would get the job, and it worked! About a week later I had a second interview and got the position as soon as it was over.

It's been about 3 weeks and things have been going great. I absolutely love the people I work with and am so grateful to have had Cynthia in my corner backing me up. I can honestly say that without her I probably would not have found the motivation within myself to come this far."
