Impact Statement
East Coast Humane Society helped 762 dogs last year through adoption and agency transfers. 145 dogs were sent home with senior humans for a very low or no fee, under our seniors program. We would like to double this number over the next year. This program benefits senior humans and pets.East Coast Humane Society transports canine companions from high kill areas in the south to the North east where there is a shortage of adoptable pets. We intend to increase the number of dogs transported, providing that we have available foster homes and funding to continue our efforts.
East Coast Humane Society will begin a community food program next year for canine and feline companions in the Venice area who need assistance.
Needs Statement
East Coast Humane Society is in need of foster homes and volunteers in the Venice area. We are currently a foster home based organization. East Coast Humane Society has a transport van with 320,000 miles. We will need a new transport vehicle within the next year. We have saved many lives through transport. We always need volunteers to help with events, fundraising and transporting to vet appointments. We greatly appreciate any time that you can donate!
Background Statement
East Coast Humane Society was founded in 2007 by a group of animal lovers who wanted to see changes in the way that canine companions are treated,as pets and in the commercial breeding industry. We have saved over 9000 dogs through adoptions and transfers to other rescue groups since out inception.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President
East Coast Humane Society helps low income families who are in need of food and veterinary care for their pets. In the past year, we have been able to keep  pets in their homes by providing these services. Our plans are to expand our program to meet the needs of at least 25 families in the coming year. Our challenge to accomplish this, as with all charitable programs is funding. We have now partnered with our local Petco store in raising not only money, but a food drive to provide the necessary supplies.
Statement from the CEO/Executive Director
East Coast Humane Society believes that all dogs deserve a chance, regardless of where they were born. We help dogs in shelters as well as assisting dogs in commercial breeding facilities. Many dogs or puppies are killed simply because they are no longer breeding or puppies have minor medical issues or simply became too large to be sold. Until the laws change we will continue to help as many as we possibly can. We take dogs regardless of age or medical condition if funds allow.

This program is beneficial to our canine companions who are more difficult to adopt and our senior humans who enjoy the companionship.

Short Term Success We hope that this program will allow low income individuals to retain their canine or feline companions as opposed to giving them away or surrendering them to animal control or rescue.
Long Term Success This program will allow pet parents to retain ownership of their companion animals instead of relinquishing them to a shelter. This will allow free space in the shelters for other animals.
Program Success Monitoring We have helped three individuals so far and plan to do more next year. We have also obtained a partnership with our local Petco. This will allow us to help more animals in need. We keep data to track success of program.
Program Success Examples We have only helped three families so far. This program is still new.
Comments
Program Comments by Organization We are so excited to be in Sarasota county. We find it to be an animal loving community, much different than where we were located in Ga. We always have a difficult time finding wonderful foster homes, as many families adopt their fosters. We are always in need of funding for vet care and transport cost.
