Mission
OUR MISSION:
ADVANCING VICTIMS OF ALL FORMS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE & HUMAN TRAFFICKING WHILE IMPLEMENTING YOUTH CRIME AND DEMAND PREVENTION METHODS TO CHANGE THE WAY AMERICA AND POP CULTURE VIEWS EXPLOITATION AND END IT.
Let us assist your program clients by providing the unique niche of services for those suffering from a history of prostitution, sexual violence and high risk vulnerable youth without duplicating services but working together.
More Too Life offers intensive case management to victims of sexual violence and all forms of human trafficking and its prevention. In fact, Dr. Bello and MTL Team have provided crisis services to families in open DCF investigations to prevent the need for removals. More Too Life also partners well with JDAP and juvenile court services for an understanding of treating victimization while dealing with drug addiction and criminal activity and behavior. The success has enabled us to assist with legislation to protect children such as HB545 which deals with sexual assault committed on minors and other forms of sexual violence. More Too Life does two things: victim services and prevention. The direct impact of serving close to 1200 high risk youth and teen victims and close to young 100 adult victims each year is a testament to our focus. Our indirect services literally affect the lives of millions every day. A small nonprofit company with a global footprint. Traffickers make money by luring them, kidnapping them, grooming them and coercing them, to engage in forced prostitution a form of of human trafficking and other forms of sexual violence with many homeless and drug addicted victims. 3 million children go missing each year– “MISSING”  - vanished, due to human trafficking. The root causes are also startling. Over 90% of prostituted persons were victims of deep sexual violence as children beginning at age 3 and up.   And indirect services to our global community. More Too Life is a leader in working with child/minor victims and the prevention in those that are high risk and other youth.  Note that More Too Life also works with victims of all forms of Human trafficking and has provided key services to many other agencies in great collaborations, insuring that the victims they discover in their programs also have a bridge to More Too Life allowing us to do more together without duplicating services.

More Too Life is based out of Sarasota, Manatee and for certain programs the 12th Judicial District as well as the 10th and 13th district and surround counties. With MTL’s background and expert knowledge we also have a global reach as we are often called upon by other states and organizations to conduct training and consult on complex cases. As sexual violence, human trafficking and their root causes among children, and young adults is a universal issue, we are not limited in location but our mission and passion in victim services is in Sarasota and Manatee.

Our aim is to change the way that  Americans and pop culture views various forms of exploitation providing a stronger community for the many child, teen and adult victims we provide aftercare services and mental and behavioral therapy and activities to. With the strong intent to continue the powerful prevention leadership academy and community outreach and the legislation changes needed to do so. Our many new local partners are a key aspect to all we do and we are here to stay, to educate, empower, employ and build together while we create better ways to higher our margins with our mission.
Statement from the CEO/Executive Director
As a 501©3 non-profit organization, our mission is clear. One of the reasons More Too Life (MTL) is unique is that as the Founder/CEO, I am also a survivor now champion of the horrendous crimes of sex-slavery and have professional experience training around the country. Understanding human trafficking from a victim’s perspective strengthens our organization’s ability to recognize red flags that are not as noticeable to the public and even law enforcement. We believe in the ongoing training of staff/volunteers in order to effectively identify and eliminate the root causes of rape, incest, molestation, prostitution, child pornography and more. Addressing root causes is a vital component to the MTL mission as it reduces the potential for repeat victimization and fortifies prevention.

Our leadership training in Florida on legislation and our work in Washington, DC which has supported victims in this country has also been extraordinary in the key ingredients of accountability and transparency, which are imperative when you are choosing which NGO’s to contribute your resources to. We at MTL want you to be involved and to know how, why, and what we do as your input in our Florida community and our nation is crucial. We need Sarasota and Manatee to understand that we are the first agency of this kind in our area and have spent our funds on saving lives not P.R. But it is time for us to spread our wings so our community can be excited about the great work we are doing right here. My resent appointment as a research adviser on the Research Advisory Council for Swanee Hunt’s of Demand Abolition with leaders like Lina Nealon, Ziba Crammer, Randy Newcomb, Ashley Judd, David Arkless and as a So-Journer Truth panelist with the Frederick Douglas Family Foundation, and being called on by the White House, all show how hard I have worked and listened to fight for the soul life and freedom of children/adults who have lost their voice as well as our society which is in need to understand root causes in order to see real change.

Our objective is to end sexual violence against the innocent and eradicate modern day slavery while healing the emotional, physical, and cognitive impacts these violent acts have on victims and their families. Each task is to help them become educated, empowered and employed. This is accomplished through development and implementation of strategic initiatives, recovery services, and community education. With the collective work of local, national, and global partnerships we are able to enhance training, prevention, and care for survivors and those we serve.

Please visit our Facebook page for videos and success stories. Success examples include victims transforming and going to school through our advocacy efforts and our curriculum. Also, success is in survivors who were full of fear and stifled by phobias due to abuse are now and are literally no longer recognized by others that saw them before they entered More Too Life. Survivors being reunited through our restorative justice push to bring forgiveness in families and bringing them back together is another example. More Too Life has examples of survivors beginning to understand that even though horrific things have taken place that they now are responsible for their own road to wholeness with our help. This is an amazing feat, especially amongst young adults who have slipped through the cracks when other adults have given up. Yet, the broken child in them was crying out for hope and healing, ready to change their lives.

Description

Restorative Justice End Demand Education (RJEDE™) created by More Too Life is a court appointed, state approved, referred or volunteer program, by MTL for men arrested for the solicitation of prostitution, sex offenders, sexual assault criminals intended to reduce recidivism through education. This education is strongly extended to men in a struggle to break free from any form of sexual addiction or crime. We also understand that this is in fact related to victim services because of the impact of men and fathers on a child’s life and the victims who often desire relationships with their relative abusers throughout their lives or their fathers who abused their own mothers or others. The Turn the Tide on the Legacy of Fatherhood is a Campaign is an MTL initiative that Empowers Champions to take the MAN out of DEMAND. The focus is on what drives the sexual exploitation of women and children, boys and girls and the root causes that have made their exploitation profitable.

Short Term Success

A great success was to see an immediate transformation/excitement in the lives of youth with just the mere acknowledgment that someone cares. We have prevented angry youth from possibly hurting others. We have discovered youth that have began to understand what sexual abuse is and begin to ask questions because many honestly didn’t know and that many girls are admitting their desire to be loved by a father and because of that may make wrong choices. We also have others that are revealing that they have been molested and raped and now we are able to address these issues through investigation. We have had many youth begin to reveal dreams above anger and a deep desire to go to college and do well in school if they only had the support. We also have adult offenders that are volunteering to work with our staff in separate locations in order to heal from past abuse, which has only created more. This is what helps to keep our community safe while preventing demand at the same time.

Long Term Success

By addressing the root causes of fatherlessness, unreported and treated child abuse, Early Exposure to Pornography, and Hyper-Sexualized Culture that are proven to create unhealthy behaviors in males (10-18 years) we can reduce the risk of youth aggression and violence. These root causes are not isolated. On the contrary many young males experience all four risk factors in varying degrees, which compound their likely-hood of “acting out” in devious behavior. The co-mentoring of young boys/girls will enhance gender respect, team build, and emotional intelligence between girls and boys. In addition, for fathers/men to realize their importance and that many girls will surrender to them not because they long for them sexually but because they are looking for just that, fathers. In this, we can have men protecting and using their personal power to give honorable guidance while walking away from the new global addiction to pornography, which lends itself to being a door to exploitation.

The importance is when college students are moved into action at the events we’ve collaborated on with Fear2Freedom. Students actively come to terms with the pressures of being in situations that many don’t want to be at but don’t know how to deal (even now) with peer pressure. But after hearing our stories, they choose to make stronger positive choices.

We have registered offenders who trust us to also tell us where they are, what they are going through so that we can stop negatives paths before they start. They understand now some were pedophiles and that often times many had not owned up to that. They thought of themselves as only sex-offenders, but to see a grown man come to terms with this is eye-opening. It indicates inclusion, in a safe manner, and protects the community and teaches the importance of putting criminals and buyers in programs that will cause them to be rehabilitated. If they re-crime only to hurt again, even if they go back to jail, it is often after someone else has been hurt along the way.

Description

More Too Life™ is a key national organization in training on victim identification, victim interviewing, aftercare, internet smarts and safety and predator ID in medical schools, hospitals, legislative leaders and DJJ and law officers.  We utilize our training as revenue but in building strong community we offer low cost presentations to community partners in need of our trainings without budgets or funding to afford our services. We also conduct training for police officers, prosecutors, lawyers, medical professionals, teachers, school counselors and social workers. MTL has trained over 20,000 people in the last 3 years and are grateful to be able to have received letters of appreciation of the great wealth of knowledge and service we provided that has has a major positive impact on our community, its children and families. Families, pastors, community leaders, homeless youth and adults have been able to get involved where they learn what to do when they are approached, how to avoid the hidden grooming processes of many traffickers, pimps and pedophile’s, and how to speak up who to call. Short-term success would show an increase in effective first response situations in which real victims are not re-victimized based on wrongful assessments of criminal acts. Our trainings have also been a great resource for other organizations looking to know more about expert victim identifications in a number of settings from schools and universities, to churches, homes and more.

Long Term Success

In a partnership with Fear 2 Freedom, we are able to conduct prevention and awareness workshops at universities/colleges in seven states. Our objective is to address and reduce the root causes of sexual assault on college campuses through sex education, etc. We also want to see a reduction of date raps and violent acts of domestic crimes on college campuses. We are working to prepare society to be able to look on former victims with compassion and not judge. Otherwise, unfair treatment only heightens community tensions and re-victimizes already broken individual victims outside of all ethnicities and economic arenas. We hope that everyone in our local area will know how to handle the crimes related to all forms of human trafficking and obtain a greater understanding of what it is from different perspectives.

The Department of Juvenile Justice has expressed their extreme gratification toward the training in the root causes, which gives them a better understanding of today’s climate for human trafficking. Many leaders, pastors, families and victims have let us know that they admire and love what we do because they can see the difference in our expert trainings and our earnest integrity to lay it out clearly, honestly, and with compassion. They were moved when we flew in a key anti-trafficking law enforcement from Los Angeles and provided a free training for all who would come and they said it was the “best training that they had been to.”

Description

More Too Life mentees come to us through referrals from their families, the courts, law enforcement, street outreach, and federal and state agencies.  Our comprehensive services are designed to meet the various needs of these amazing young women who need our help. Mental behavioral health is a huge component of the services we provide but that alone is not enough.  Force, fraud and coercion occur often without being identified. Such as a pregnant unidentified victim with one child already in the system who lives with a pimp pretending to be a boyfriend. A foreign national domestic servitude victim working in a hotel/motel or restaurant with their passport taken. We go through an assessment and innovative educational curriculum that not only teach victims that they were victims in the first place but how to move forward.

Our 3-12-month educational curriculum for young women is a collegiate style education written and created by Dr. Brook Bello with an emphasis on a victims emotional de-funding of any childhood violence being their fault, because of the high price they have paid they often believe they deserve a life of pain. The four semesters and numerous courses go through various processes of personal development, world views, goal setting in our curriculum. It is also preparatory for GED, or continued higher learning and career skills. Support from our instructors, coaches, mentors and volunteers help the participant develop and refine the skills needed to thrive as they enter a new, healthier life and this education is done on and off sight.
The Champion Academy Center is an innovative space with a conceptual attitude and an innovative approach toward services and education, mentoring, crisis care and identity discovery, where many of our protocols and initiatives are based. The idea that no one can prosper above the capacity of their soul brings into mind the purpose of discovering one’s passion and purpose regardless of how their life began. It is a safe space, for art, education, career skills, goal setting, gender studies, mutual respect, human trafficking, pimp culture, and various forms of sexual violence prevention and how these studies play a part in the lives of society, pop culture and victimization. We desire that all victims begin to discover who they are and move beyond their trauma to a purposeful and productive life.

That high risk, and other youth discover the urgent need for internet, social media, safety and the importance to discover who they are and desire to be in today's world regardless of their surroundings. In addition, to tutoring, job skills think tanking, budgeting and other needed tools and resources many of our youth have been able truly transform.

Long Term Success When talking to teens, it becomes evident that most of them desire the same things in life: success, respect, health, wealth and meaningful relationships. However, where many of them differ is in their perception of how to obtain the success they desire. The responsible social values of delayed gratification, mutual respect, integrity, work ethic, perseverance, and self-control that used to be seen as the “common sense” traits necessary to achieve these goals, are no longer portrayed as such by pop culture norms.
Program Success Monitoring In 2016 we will begin to even more evaluations, however, to date all of our youth have graduated with a high success rate for victimized and vulnerable youth of 90%.
Program Success Examples Many of our youth that were doing online education due to various issues are now back at school, truancy, and other issues have lessened. Many teens with drug addicted parents, those in foster care and others have come to discover the life will ultimately be what they fight for. This academy will now be held at the Robert L Taylor and partner with Chief Dipino New Beginnings of which we are over. Igniting youth for their better tomorrow. Education and various new ideas, arts and creative ideas have been embraced.

Governor Rick Scott and his cabinet along with A.G. Pam Bondi presented Dr. Bello in Jan 2017 the 2016 advocate of the year. Dr. Bello also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the White House and the President of the United States for outstanding her service to children adult victims and out nation in the battle against human trafficking. Her story was seen on the Oprah Winfrey Network produced by United Way Worldwide, as she was chosen as one of 10 national heroes. Her fight to work and not to promote herself found her receiving awards that brought Dr. Bello to deep tears of joy! Dr. Brook Bello is an author, innovative thought leader, filmmaker/actress who believes that “art heals”. As their trademarked logo and Bello coined motto states, “victim to survivor, survivor to thriver, thriver to champion,” Dr. Bello is changing the way pop culture views sexual exploitation and its end. She and her team at More Too Life address the root causes of human trafficking, such as incest, rape, molestation, pedophilia, poverty, fatherlessness, and other societal issues that often camouflage these abuses.

Brook’s efforts as a human rights activist lead to sweeping changes in 2015 to Florida law through the passage of HB369 and HB465. The Florida house and senate unanimously approved both bills, which for the first time Bello added and included key language using the word prostitution as it relates to human trafficking. In 2016 as Dr. Bello lobbied for and spoke before the senate committee for SB784 HB545 she saw the unanimous passing of a bill. She had fought for including hoteliers and those that rent rooms for the purpose of exploitation to be charged with a crime and for the Florida statue that now fully states no child can ever be prosecuted for prostitution.

As a nationally recognized innovative thought leader in the prevention of human trafficking, sexual violence, and sexual exploitation, Dr. Bello is a member of the NoVo Foundation started by the Buffet family, daughter of Warren, Jennifer Buffet and her amazing initiative to assist women and girls globally. Brook has been a member of the Demand Abolition Research Advisory Council for Hunt Alternative and a truth panel member for the Frederick Douglas Family Initiative. She has spoken and taught alongside some of the world’s most influential people including U.S. Presidents, state governors, senators, legislators, and community leaders. Recognized for her powerful work. Having had articles written about her in Ebony and Essence Magazines and various articles around the country Bello is a sought after motivational speaker.Dr. Bello was featured as a keynote speaker at the following national events: the first Eradication of Modern Day Slavery Summit at the White  Dr. Bello is an author and the creator of RJEDE and Living Above the Noise.

Governance Comments by Organization
More Too Life™ just complete it's first SWOT and are in the process of updating and expanding all of our governance docs, including policy and procedures with a new list of 10 professional amazing advisory board members and our 3 new board members with 3 more on the way. Our hope is to hire a new executive director in the future so that our founder can serve on the board only and be an integral part of any great board.
Some of our challenges are that Dr. Brook Bello only began getting a salary in August 2014 and very small at that so capacity building to be able pay current staff, to continue the amazing work with all of our court appointed and refereed youth as well as the young adult victims we serve is crucial. Thus, the time in victim serves is vast and our 2015 strategic plan has now enabled us to be able to do just that and make sure that our docs are all updated to meet the current processes in place and this is exciting news for us as a very transparent, and accountable organization.
