Accomplishments last year:
  • Partnered with 1620 donors and 111 volunteers who invested 10,539 hours of service to carry out our mission.
  • Flew 55 mission flights and delivered nearly 200,000 pounds of supplies into the hands of missionaries; ensuring the supplies reached the intended recipients.
  • Completed one engine overhaul on our Embraer 110 aircraft, paid in full. ($216,000)
 Goals for the current fiscal year, ending September 30, 2016:
  • Complete a 3 year strategic plan.
  • Gain approval from Cuban officials to begin flying religious and humanitarian supplies into Cuba.
  • Make the first mission flight to Cuba.
  • Address the organization's current staffing needs.
  • Pursue an additional twin engine aircraft capable of carrying at least 1,800 lbs for service to current locations in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas while allowing expansion to Cuba. 
Needs Statement
Aviation is expensive. Our greatest need is for aircraft funding. 
  • The fuel cost for 1 round-trip mission flight is $4,500. 
  • Our current aircraft, an Embraer 110, needs to have the 2nd engine overhauled in the first quarter of 2017. (quotes exceed $200,000)  
In addition to ongoing aircraft funding, our current needs list includes the following: 
  • A heavy duty gasoline or diesel powered utility vehicle to pull our aircraft. A John Deere Utility Vehicle (Gator) - ($6,000) or a lightly used similar utility vehicle.
Background Statement
On October 24, 1980, Agape Flights was incorporated as in independent Christian ministry committed to "Serving Christ by Serving His Missionaries" in Haiti.  Barely 3 weeks later on November 15, the inaugural flight left the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport bound for Cap Haitien, Haiti. Agape founders, Keith and Clara Starkey's faith adventure from "farmers" in Ohio to "Flyers for the Lord" in Florida began years earlier after falling in love with the people of Haiti on a mission trip. The first flight served one missionary family but soon the small Cessna 411 delivered emergency supplies and mail to about 25 missionaries each week. 
 
More than 35 years later, Agape Flights of Venice, Florida now serves more than 375 missionaries, their families and missions throughout Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. 
 
Agape Flights literally means "God's Love Flights."  Appropriately named, Agape Flights touches the lives of more than one million people each year in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas through its affiliated missionaries who provide; education, community health, clean water, medical services, evangelism, orphan care, vocational training and micro enterprise opportunities.
 Agape's core mail and cargo service to missionaries provides consistent weekly service, yet offers the flexibility to respond quickly to emergency needs. Agape Flights also:
  • Receives and distributes supplies through the missionaries and ministries such as: medicine, medical supplies, nutritional supplements, Bibles, school and educational supplies, building materials and other needed items.
  • Speeds relief supplies during disasters and emergencies.
  • Provides shopping services for missionaries, including hard to find mechanical parts and resources for equipment repair.
  • Serves as a liaison between stateside individuals, churches and organizations to the missionaries in the field.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President
As the volunteer leader of Agape Flights, I'm humbled to work with a dedicated and dynamic group of people who strive to honor God, obey His Word, and follow His living example of love, Jesus Christ.

The leadership of Agape envisions a world where missionaries never lack the resources they need to share the unconditional love of Christ. It is an honor to work toward that goal in our current service areas of Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. 

In relationship to the governance of Agape Flights, we embrace the same organizational core values of Service, Integrity, Excellence and Shared Purpose. One of the ways the board of directors recently demonstrated those values was to embrace training and adopt the “Values Driven Governance” model.

Our biggest current challenge is to meet the increased expenses of aviation and technology so we can continue to provide excellent aviation service for the missionaries we serve.

My personal passion for helping missionaries working in harsh conditions coupled with my love as an aviator is what drew me to the mission of Agape. Flying has been a passion of mine from an early age. Commercial and corporate aviation have always been a big part of my life.

In my later years I knew that it was time to use my talents as an aviator and a businessman to serve God. My opportunity to serve in both those capacities at Agape Flights is a gift from God. The blessings extend far beyond the aircraft.

Statement from the CEO/Executive Director
As I walked into the orphanage I met several of the little residents. One small boy reached out his hand to greet me.  As I looked into his deep brown eyes, I could not help but notice his enormous smile. In perfect English he said, "Hello, my name is Dave, what's your name?"  I responded, "My name is Allen, it's great to meet you, Dave."  His shirt was brightly colored with a cartoon-like character on the front.  Underneath the character was the word, 'Happy."  I asked him if his shirt was true, "Are you happy?" His quick response was, "Oh yes, we have great meals here at the house and I have my own bed. Would you like to see my bed?"  His single bed was a mattress of foam rubber, a plain white sheet and a thin cotton comforter. To me it didn't look like much, but to him, it was something very special.  What I discovered was that Happy Dave had been rescued just 3 months earlier by Agape affiliated missionaries. Dave's parents had abandoned him and left him on the streets to fend for himself.
 
Happy Dave certainly made a tremendous impact on me. But more importantly, he served to express the critical work that our missionaries are accomplishing. I was reminded that by Agape supplying their needs we were also serving the needs of Happy Dave and a multitude of children.
 
Thank God for the missionaries and the eternal difference they are making in the lives of children, women and men throughout Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas.
 
Agape Flights is a multi-denominational organization offering a service of supply, encouragement, love and support to over 350 missionary affiliates.  I count it an awesome privilege and honor to be leading a servant ministry like Agape Flights.  We are blessed with a community of volunteers, financial partners and a talented staff uniquely gifted to meet the needs of those we have been called to serve.
 
Our name, "Agape" is taken from the Greek language. Agape love is unconditional love, the kind of love shown to us by Jesus Christ.
 
Agape Flights was birthed out of a desire to "serve Christ by serving His missionaries."  In that one statement of 6 words, 1 word occurs twice because of its significance. It is essentially what we do, we serve. We are the life and supply line to missionaries who serve Christ. We serve the servants.

Description Agape's Mission Flight Program serves missionary families by providing coordination and transportation of mail, continuous and critical supplies, and disaster relief to Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas.

Agape Flights:

Agape serves areas surrounding Cap Haitien, Port au Prince and Les Cayes, Haiti; Santiago and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; and Eleuthera, Bahamas. Missionaries at each airport location meet the pilots and planes and serve as the distribution network on the ground to ensure that provisions reach their intended destination.

Short Term Success

The Caribbean area served by Agape Flights has increased from 1 location in Haiti in 1980 to the current 6 regions of service; 3 airports in Haiti, 2 cities in the Dominican Republic and 1 in Eleuthera, Bahamas. The number of missionaries served has also steadily increased through the years; beginning with just a handful of missionaries in 1980, compared to 375 families served in 2016. We continue to navigate the challenges that come with working in developing countries. For a look at into the near-future, consider the results of just one longtime affiliated mission organization whose many various areas of ministry: employs 250 fulltime Haitians, oversees 18 schools and feeds over 1,500,000 meals a year, hosts and annual Haitian teachers conference, a higher education assistance program, 2 medical clinics, has built 45 churches, invested in 335 pastors and 158,000 church members and established a long term earthquake rebuilding program. That defies the odds and defines achievement in Haiti.

  • Seeds, animals and equipment in support of workers using agricultural techniques that provide. food and revenue resources.
  • Quality building materials and Haitian workers to build suitable housing.
  • Well-equipped medical clinics and professionals.
  • Vocational workforce.
  • Multi-denominational Christian churches with national leaders. 

Missionaries served by Agape Flights are the conduit to a healthier, sustainable Haiti. In the worst of conditions, missionaries have made remarkable progress  and with the help of Agape's supply-line will persevere on that course toward the outcome examples listed above.

Program Success Monitoring
Overall service satisfaction is monitored by those receiving cargo on behalf of missionary affiliates and the members themselves. All flight status documentation is kept through the Chief Pilot's office in coordination with the Director of Operations and Cargo Dept. Plane maintenance is monitored and reported to the FAA by the Director of Maintenance.  Agape Flights operations are regulated by the FAA, and US and International Customs. 
Agape Flights missionary affiliates are met with annually and communicated with weekly.  Missionary communication and service is monitored by the Operations Department.

Embroidery thread becomes an opportunity to learn a skill and gain financial independence.
