The best - known and most viable method of early detection is mammography, with the ability to detect breast cancer before they can be felt.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President
The challenges facing Breast Health Sarasota Inc are the increased need for breast health services for women in our community.  The rising cost of healthcare and the need for raising more funds locally to help offset the cost of providing the care and services.  As we try to tap into our local community clubs, country clubs and other groups for support we try to share with them some of the touching stories of support we have given in the past.  Some just receiving a free screening mammogram and others that have had surgery and full reconstruction and found wholeness as a woman again.

My personal commitment came after the death of my 32 yr old Aunt that succumbed to breast cancer, leaving a three year old daughter.  At the time of her death I made a personal commitment that some day I would make a difference in the world of breast cancer!  No little girls or boys should be seeing their mother die of this dreaded disease!  It is because of my Aunt Boni's death I have decided to help fight the fight of defeating breast cancer.  She became a study participant in the Tamoxifen trial at Mayo Clinic.  I am sure because of her willingness to give of her last days on this  earth  that many women are alive today.

At the time of my death I can only hope that people can say that because of my willingness to go out fighting the fight for breast cancer I have made a difference.  We know that this disease can be treated if we just are able to detect it soon enough!  May it be our goal to see that all women in Sarasota County have the access to get the breast health care they need.

Short Term Success This program gives women and men who are uninsured access to screenings for early detection of breast cancer.
Long Term Success

Our goal is to provide breast health services to all the underserved in Sarasota county that have a need as long as our funds allow. Whether it’s a mammogram, a breast biopsy, or breast reconstruction for a woman having a mastectomy in the course of her breast cancer treatment, Breast Health Sarasota enables low-income, uninsured women in Sarasota County to have access to the highest quality of breast care.

Program Success Monitoring We monitor our success by the number of Sarasota County residents who receive breast cancer screenings and referrals each year.
Program Success Examples The patients assisted by Breast Health Sarasota are typically women receiving their primary healthcare free-of-charge through the health department or Senior Friendship Center, who are then referred to Sarasota Memorial’s Breast Health Center for breast screening and/or diagnostic tests. These women could easily fall through the cracks with respect to their breast health care, but thanks to Breast Health Sarasota, their uninsured and low-income status is not a factor that stands between them and the breast health services they need.
