Our Foundation is comprised of members of the Rotary Club of Punta Gorda, founded in 1923. Over these past decades, our membership of committed men and women have demonstrated Rotary's principals of "Service Above Self" in our community and beyond. The professional diversity of our membership has allowed our Club and Foundation to play an important role in charitable giving. Needs have never been greater. Through our fundraising efforts and the support of other committed donors, we hope to increase our impact.

Statement from the CEO/Executive Director

The Punta Gorda Rotary Charity and Education Foundation, Inc., is a Foundation serving the changing needs of the Greater Punta Gorda community. Commonly referred to as the Punta Gorda Rotary Foundation the Foundation operates as a tax-exempt, not-for-profit agency under the Internal Revenue Code, Section 501 (c) (3). Funds of the Foundation are used to make charitable contributions.

The Foundation is a visible community force to support organizations that demonstrate commitment to service above self, help young people through scholarships, assist families in need, improve quality of life, and foster strong partnerships within the greater Punta Gorda region. The Foundation also supports Rotary International Foundation and Rotary District initiatives.

The Foundation provides leadership to leverage the Foundation's resources as an expression of service to the Punta Gorda region and commitment for the Rotary Club of Punta Gorda.

Governance

The Foundation is governed by all volunteer Trustees who are elected by the general membership of the Rotary Club of Punta Gorda.  There are no administrative costs for the Foundation. All members of the Punta Gorda Rotary Club are also members of the Foundation.

Proceeds from the Annual Testimonial Dinner along with investment income and donations help support the efforts of the Foundation.

Recently the Foundation funded the “Adult Exercise Park” in Punta Gorda with outdoor adult exercise equipment and The Charlotte Local Education Foundation (CLEF). Contributions this past year were made to the Charlotte County Family YMCA, Rotary Wheelchair Foundation, Charlotte High School “Project Graduation”, Seminar for Tomorrow’s Leaders Conference, New Operation Cooper Street, Big Brothers Big Sisters, AMI Kids Wilderness Program,  Sgt. Michael Wilson Fund, Disabled Veterans Assistance Program, Rotary Camp Florida and the Rotary International Polio Plus campaign. In addition, we sponsor the Charlotte High School Career Breakfast Program and the Rotary Dictionary Project providing dictionaries to area elementary students. We are also participating with Rotary District 6960 International Projects and other notable charities.

The Foundation grants scholarships to deserving local college bound students. Such scholarships are based upon academic performance, financial need and leadership. Each year the Foundation gives tuition scholarships to students attending Florida South Western State College and Charlotte Technical Center. Over 100 local high school students have received Rotary scholarships.

Each year we hold a special Christmas Party for students of the Charlotte Harbor School and we provide Thanksgiving baskets to needy families.

Gifts from Rotarians and others are encouraged and greatly appreciated.

Through our Testimonial Dinner program we honored Joanne Helphenstene in our salute to a very worthy community citizen,  who, we feel, exemplifies the Rotary motto: “Service above Self”.
