Impact Statement
 2016 Highlights:
  • In January, we hosted a targeted fundraiser for the King's Garden Children Home, an orphanage in Bataan, Philippines, and raised over $1100.
  • In April, 24 people traveled to Wauchula to attend the Story of Jesus passion play.
  • In October, 42 single adults and married alumni came together at Lakewood Retreat near Brooksville to celebrate our 40th Annual Get-Away.
Needs Statement
  1. Volunteers.  Being focused exclusively on single adults, we lose helpers when they get married.  We are in need of help in fundraising, marketing, outreach, and data entry/maintenance.  We are also seeking to fill open positions in our Board of Directors with people who have a passion for single adults and Jesus Christ coupled with practical business skills.
  2. Scholarships to provide financial assistance for single adults desiring to attend our programs, but lacking sufficient income to cover the cost. Typically, we know of 30-40 people each year who are unable to attend our Annual Fall Get-Away for lack of funds, and many more don't even let us know of their need.  Scholarship needs vary from $50 to $220 per person, depending on their financial situation.
Background Statement

The roots of Singles Reaching Singles in Christ trace back to 1977 when founder Gerry Gallicchio began a singles group in her local church. Her experience as a single parent gave her a burden to bring the healing message of Christ to broken lives. The ministry grew to the point that, in 1989, it was incorporated as an independent charitable organization with a mission to see single adults complete in Christ (Col. 2:10), fulfilling their potential and reaching others for Christ. Since its inception, the ministry has been operating alongside dozens of local churches with its message of comfort, hope, purity, and education, touching as many as 1500 single adults throughout the southeastern United States each year.

In 2001, God brought John Whitmire to the ministry, giving him a passion for single adults akin to Gerry’s. With his love of teaching, mastery of computers, and engineering experience, John’s skills and gifts were great assets that filled a growing need in the organization. Following this passion for ministry, John earned a Certificate of Teaching Ministry from Sarasota Bible College in 2011 and is licensed by the Fellowship of Ministers International. In February 2012, Gerry handed the ministry Presidency to John to continue the ministry of SRSIC.

A suggestion in 1998 from Pastor Don Lafler of Sarasota’s Fellowship of Believers led to the Praise Rallies that encourage the Singles ministries at churches throughout Florida each summer. The annual Fall Get-Away in October has been a treasured favorite since the beginning. Every year, God is faithful to provide excellent teachers and speakers as singles gather together to seek the Lord and experience His life-changing power at this “unique encounter with God.”

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President

Many times each year, we are told that there is no other ministry that cares about the single adult like we do. Frequently, people who find us will relate their arduous search that led them to us. Attendees of our annual Get-Away consistently describe it as life-changing and encourage us to keep doing what we do.
Typically, couples find it difficult to understand the struggles in the single adult life. Oddly, many singles lose their memory of it soon after marrying. But God has given us a passion to understand and minister to this often ignored group, helping them to become and remain whole persons who, if they marry, will stay that way, and if they don't marry, won't waste their life wishing that they did.

Financial Comments by Organization
Since its inception, this ministry's regular expenses have been covered by the donations of participating single adults and a handful of married couples. When the economy tanked, single adults were among the hardest hit and our income plummeted with the economy. Through careful and difficult trimming and belt tightening, we were able to reduce the expenses for 2013 to less than half what they were in 2010. We are hoping for a broader support base in the coming years so we can begin implementing the programs that are currently waiting on our wish list.
