Background Statement
The Auxiliary of Doctors Hospital of Sarasota was founded by a group of doctors wives in 1967. As of 2016 we have 250 volunteers. Every volunteer at the hospital is a member of the Auxiliary and is dedicated to providing comfort and hope to patients and their families. The Auxiliary raises funds through the hospital Gift Shop, the sale of weekend meals in the cafeteria, donations, fund raising events, and the distribution of newspapers to patients. All funds after expenses are used to grant scholarships to deserving high school seniors going into the medical field. As of 2015, we have given scholarship amounting to over $1,000,000.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President
It is extremely rewarding to help high school seniors going into the medical field. Since our inception we have been able to grant over $1,000,000 in scholarships. Additional funding would allow us to give larger dollar amounts to individual recipients. Our challenges include recruiting and retention of volunteers, devising new ways of fund raising, finding ways to fund our expenses so that more of our funds raised can go exclusively to scholarships.
