Impact Statement
The galleries and classrooms at ArtCenter Manatee are always full of visitors, students, teachers and artists.  Over the past few years, ArtCenter Manatee has instructed thousands of students in every medium of the visual arts. In the last ten years we have doubled our membership.
 
ArtCenter Manatee is known for its richness in the visual arts. Our instructors share their well-honed skills and talents with every student who walks in our door.
 
In the 2015-2016 season we staged twenty one major exhibits, including:
  • Mary Whyte, American Watercolor Artist Exhibit & Workshop
  • Manatee County Schools exhibit
  • Fine Craft and Photography exhibit
  • Art by Kids with Cancer 
  • Florida Life open show
  • Art Matters open show

We also accomplished:

  • Successful completion of Kid's Art Camp and gallery exhibition showing of artwork by our youngest students
  • Hundreds of visual art classes and workshops in different media
  • Lecture series on different aspects of art
  • Monthly series of Night Out, a fun experience with art
  • Participated in a Board Training & Retreat
  • Wrote a new 5 Year Strategic Plan
Our goals for this year include the staging of up to 25 major exhibits, including:
  • Celebration of Our 80th Anniversary
  • American Watercolor Society traveling exhibit, in conjunction with regional Florida Suncoast Watercolor Exhibition
  • Free Gallery Exhibit for the Manatee County School System to showcase budding artists and allow the youth to have a "true" gallery experience
  • Offer exhibit space to emerging artist, Dylan Pierce, for his first one-man show

  • Due to a successful pilot program, a return of Kids Create: Plein Air Painting
  • Exciting new programs in the ever popular Girls' Night Out Series
  • Spearheading a Arts & Healing Program with focus initially on dementia.

Background Statement
In 1953, the Art League of Manatee County received a 30-year lease from the city of Bradenton for what was called the "foot of 9th St. W." A 2-year capital campaign raised the needed $30,000, and ground was broken in 1955.  In 1959, 2 studios and a kiln room were added.  Then, in 1964, Ruth Kelly donated $5,000 to start the Art League of Manatee County Foundation. The lease on the property was extended, and the McKinley Library was established. together with a summer program.  As membership, exhibitions and awards grew, 1984 saw ACM hosting the first showing of the American Watercolor Society.
 
The 1990's saw further improvements to our facility - including a new facade - and the hosting of the Annual Beaux Arts Ball.  2000 brought first participation in Empty Bowls project - the beginning of a long-running annual collaboration with Meals-in-Wheels Plus.

2012 ArtCenter Manatee celebrated 75 years of bringing Art and Art Education to Manatee County. 
in 2017, we celebrate 80 years of serving our comunity as the premier visual arts center in Manatee County 
 
As ACM continues to grow exponentially, bringing cutting edge art to the region and offering the best in art instruction, growth of our facility is expected. We anticipate a capital campaign to address those needs in the next 2-5 years.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President

For eighty years ArtCenter Manatee (ACM) has been a treasured nucleus for the visual arts in the region. It is a special place for people of all ages to learn, create, exhibit and market original works of art. It is a place that feeds the soul. 

ACM has grown to over 1,000 members with 30,000 people involved in programming annually. The area around us is developing rapidly and ACM plans to grow with it.
 
As stated in our current strategic plan, Board goals are to improve visibility and community relationships, to develop a plan for ArtCenter facilities that allows for growth, and to ensure the ArtCenter is in a strong financial position as we consider a future capital campaign. In addition, it is our goal to build public trust in the organization.
 
We thrive because the team of teachers, volunteers, members, donors, students, staff, and the Board is working together to shape an exciting and secure future for this valued community asset.
 
Studies have shown time and again that businesses and families are attracted to communities with a strong environment of arts and culture. ArtCenter Manatee is a key component to that rich environment. Join us to support the visual arts in Manatee County!
 
  


   
Statement from the CEO/Executive Director

ArtCenter Manatee is a thriving jewel in our community. With an active membership, a strong arts curriculum, and an exciting events schedule, we are continually reaching towards excellence. Also, being located in the revitalized downtown Riverfront District we are positioned for expansion with increased exposure.

 
We continue to partner with other nonprofit organizations such as Art By Kids With Cancer and Realize Bradenton. We offer scholarships to children who are less fortunate, and strive for free programs which expose the community to the value of creative expression in a time of electronic overload.
 
Rarely does a day go by that we are not told how ArtCenter Manatee has impacted a life. It reminds us that the value of community, creative expression and healthy outlets are vital to humanity. It also reinforces that we are on track by achieving our mission of enhancing our community. 
Programs
Description
Each year ArtCenter Manatee hosts a summer long art camp for children ages 4 - 15.  The following camps are offered:
  • Sprouting Artists - ages 4-6, two hours once a week, 3 weeks for each of 3 sessions held June, July and August
  • Thrilling Thursdays & Fabulous Fridays- ages 6 - 10 -  classes in clay, painting, drawing and mixed media , three consecutive Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3 sessions throughout the summer
  • KidsArtCamp - ages 6 - 10, running  9 am - 3 pm Monday- Friday,9 weeks starting in June. Media cverfed include, drawing, sculpture, pottery, painting, mixed media 
  • Emerging Artists - ages 11 - 15.  These week-long program runs 9 am - 12:00 or 1:00-4:00 & subjects covered are: photography, painting, cartooning, wheelthrown pottery, hand-built pottery, jewelry, book illustration.

Short Term Success
The summer camp art programming, and exhibition of the children's work, instills confidence, a sense of creativity, and major socialization with other children and adults.
Long Term Success
As funding for arts education in our public schools is cut, the imperative grows for ArtCenter Manatee to provide art education for school-age children.  Art fosters socialization, development of small motor skills and creative thinking, and has been linked to success in mathematics and many of the sciences.
 
The long-term goal of our education programs is for our students to enjoy developing their artistic interests, talents and skills.  Our exhibitions bring high - quality examples of artistic expression to the community, to please they eye and to elevate viewers' appreciation of artistic aesthetic.  All of our children's programming is intended to continue the development of their artistic sensibilities, and to provide a warm & safe environment.  Many young students - particularly in the summer months - may be latch-key children should they not be here at ACM.
Program Success Monitoring
A written evaluation form is completed by each student and parent at the end of every camp week.   A daily journal is used by the teachers to keep us up to date on any ideas or issues that need to be addressed.  Staff communicates with the instructors on a daily basis.
At camp end, parents are asked to complete an electronic survey explaining the strengths and weaknesses of the camp and any suggestions they might have to improve the next camp. These suggestions, customer ratings surveys, and anecdotal comments/observations are incorporated in ongoing program evaluation and process improvement.
Program Success Examples
 Our young participants may initially enroll for one session; but a predominant majority eventually enroll in multiple sessions for the season.  Most of our students become multi-year participants, and continue on into our Emerging Artists Program.; where many partcipants have been part o the ACM family since ages 4-5.rtist
 
Many of the children who have attended camp, repeat annually, and ultimately volunteer as aides in youth summer programs.
 
One student started camp at age 4, attended every summer camp until she was 15,then worked as a paid assistant at camp until she graduated high school and moved on to college.

ArtCenter Manatee offers a wide variety of visual art programs to the public each year.  Programs include classes for every age from 4 through adult in painting, pottery, photography, jewelry, drawing and mixed media.  Free art demos and lectures - on a wide range of topics and media - including the art of gardening and food as art and other avante garde topics in the arts world are offered to both membership and the public. 
 
Our KidsArt summer camp program brings 500+ children ages 4 - 15 ito the ArtCenter to experience the visual arts in every media.  An exhibit, during July and August showcases the artwork of each child attending camp and instills a sense of accomplishmen and confidence in each child.

Experience
Carla is a graduate of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan and previous owner of LaserOmics, a successful business development and management company in Clearwater, Florida before moving to Manatee County.  After moving to Bradenton, Carla worked in the garden design, development and sales industry.

Ms. Nierman came to ArtCenter Manatee in 2007 starting at the reception desk and quickly moved up to develop and manage ACM’s widely popular Artist Gift Market.  In recent years Carla has served our Members well as the Special Events Director taking on the successful Art at the Ranch Event as well as the Jazzy Ladies Fashion Show and many Opening Night receptions including the National and American Watercolor Society Traveling Shows.

Carla brings with her the knowledge and experience necessary to manage a successful teaching and learning center and has proven gallery management and public relation skills.

Ms. Nierman said that she is thankful for the opportunity to lead ArtCenter Manatee into the future and looks forward to serving our Members and the Community and being a part of the Riverfront renaissance.  She went on to say that this is a very thrilling time for Bradenton and that ACM, with its 75 years of service to the community, looks forward to being a cornerstone of Bradenton’s revitalization.

The great news is that the ArtCenter is growing in membership and in programming. A hardworking staff is dedicated to the ArtCenter, its membership and growth.
 
The greatest challenge at this point is fundraising; finding sponsorships for events, developing a legacy program, increasing individual donations.  In 2014, we hired a Development Coordinator who is concentrating efforts in this area.
 
The second challenge is space.  The educational programs as well as membership have grown considerably over the last 10 years and we need more classroom space to accommodate all of the programming we would like to present to the public. 
 
This year the Board of Directors, with the help of a Board Facilitator, wrote a 5 year Strategic Plan.  This plan addresses these challenges and will help maintain a healthy and thriving center.
Multi-Media Comments by Organization
We've had a great response to our multi-media advertising.  It's been a great way to target an audience we might not reach by more traditional means.  Our efforts continue to expand to include videos of art lectures, events and visual art demonstrations; a brief look into the exciting world of art at ArtCenter Manatee.

Our organization certainly faces challenges of finding the appropriate funding to carry out our mission.  As an art organization, we rely on tuition and membership as well as donors and sponsors to help us continue our programming.  We are making concerted efforts to build strong relationships as we educate and involve both private and public entities. 
 
We have been fortunate that we have a loyal membership and student body who supports us by participating in ArtCenter programs.  Membership and class registrations continue to grow; as do the costs necessary to maintain operations.  It is necessary to increase our donor base and develop alternate means of funding.
 
For the past year we have had a Development Coordinator.  She is new to this area so is therefore concentrating on building relationships and grant writing.
 
Part of our mission statement is outreach and I see that as an opportunity to work with other organizations to bring recognition and funding to us and to those partnering with us.
