Description
Research shows that trauma kits can help save lives.  Police are normally the first responders on all calls and seconds can meet the difference of life or death.  You will see around the Country from Miami to Los Angles trauma kits are being purchased for all police cars on the street.  It is a great resource for you local police department and can help save lives.  Studies have proven that lives have been saved.

Short Term Success
The short term success will be to make sure all the officers are trained and know how to use the trauma kit.  The goal will to make the officers understand that have an additional part to their uniform.  They can treat the kit as a life saving tool.
Long Term Success
The long term success will be to save lives.  There are many times the first responders are the first on scene and they may have to wait for EMT.  This is a crucial time because the officer on site may be able to stabilize the victim and save their life.  We will be able to track the success of the program in years to come once each vehicle has a trauma kit.
The success has been proven with Chicago Police Department because they have to work with the wounded.  There are many times the paramedics are not even aloud on site because the area is not safe.  It has been noted do to the fact the police department has the trauma kits they have save lives.
Program Success Monitoring
We can have the Sarasota Police Department let us know how many times the kits are used.  We will know each time a kit is used because the officer will have to refill the kit.  Our goal will be for the Sarasota Police Foundation to help fill out the Trauma Kit when it needs to be filled.
Program Success Examples
Examples of success from other communities:

The Blacksburg Police Department bought belt trauma kits to help officers who might need to help a citizen, another officer or themselves in an emergency. Police say they're often the first on the scene and they now have a few tools they could use right away.

The officers are all trained in CPR and basic first aid. The compact kits contain items they can use to make a difference before EMTs arrive.

Police say the kit was put to use in an emergency last week. "Both tourniquets had to be applied on each leg plus we had to use the quick clot to stop the bleeding and compact the wounds," said Lt. Nathan O'dell. "We were able to get them transported to the hospital and flown to the trauma center in Roanoke within 45 minutes. Rescue personnel at the hospital said what these officers did saved that person's life."

The trauma kits are in every patrol car. They're kept in the driver's side door for easy access. Some officers also carry one on their belt.

BELTSVILLE, Md.  — Prince George’s County Police are championing new trauma kits officers are starting to carry, saying one likely helped save two lives.

On Tuesday afternoon, Officer Risher responded to a call on Cherry Hill Road about a teenager being stabbed multiple times in a fight.

“I got out of my car and saw a group of about 30 people huddled around the stairs,” Officer Risher says.

The teen was bleeding profusely, and Officer Risher says he immediately reached for his trauma kit, managing to slow the bleeding until emergency medical crews arrived. It’s the second time that kit has helped Risher in two months.

“A boyfriend had stabbed his girlfriend several times so I was able to use this kit to apply pressure and stop the bleeding to the victim’s leg,” Risher says.
