Impact Statement
Care2Tri has participated in more than 150 adaptive athlete races during the last seven years. Through these races we impacted and worked with 150 disabled athletes in five states. In addition, we initiated "Living Beyond Me," a program that helps individuals improve their mind, body, and spirit through physical betterment and volunteer work for the Cerebral Palsy Center.
And through our "Together We ARE" and "Cause U Care" Virtual 5k programs, we have successfully raised funds for local families with disabilities to help them meet medical and transportation needs.
Finally, we were the focus charity for the national production of the "Revolution 3 Triathlon Florida" television show.
Needs Statement
In order to continue to positively impact differently-abled individuals, our primary need is funding assistance for the adaptive athlete races. Each race costs Care2Tri approximately $3,000. We hope to add more races throughout Florida and introduce additional Care2Tri chapters across the country. To achieve our goals, we plan to create two full-time positions and source outside assistance for web, photography, consulting, etc. The estimated annual cost for these initiatives is $200,000. An additional need for Care2Tri is adaptive race equipment. The cost to completely outfit an adaptive athlete for our triathlons is $3,000.
Background Statement
Currently, there is no other adaptive athlete organization that does what we do. There are a few others that pull and push differently-abled individuals through races, but what separates us from the rest is that we compete with virtual strangers in every event. Another distinction is that we do not classify ourselves as solely triathletes. This happens to be the avenue that we use to give back, but we encourage others to use their own passion as a vehicle to give back as well. Due to the inspiring nature of our races, we receive significant media coverage which we use as an opportunity to educate society about differently-abled individuals.

Care2Tri began because our founder felt as though he was always an underdog so he wanted to help others that were treated the same way. Many of the athletes we have had the privilege of meeting and racing with have expressed that they are often treated as outcasts. We are firm believers that all people have disabilities. However, society seems to feel that it’s okay to look differently at those with an obvious physical disability. We learned early on that differently-abled people are just people, like everyone else. They have feelings and thoughts and great insights to share. The problem is that many do not take the time to listen and get to know these amazing individuals. It is our undying mission to create a sense of equality and help steer the views of mainstream society to one of acceptance and inclusion.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President
Care2Tri has grown by leaps-and-bounds since its inception. The response from the community has been astounding. We are excited about our success and know that as we continue to grow, we will be impacting people across the country. As with most non-profits, funding is our biggest challenge. We were thrilled to fund wheelchair accessible vans for two families — they can now comfortably transport their disabled children. It is rewarding and heartwarming to help our differently-abled participants source funds for the needs that affect them and their families. We have a special product and with continued success, we will continue to help more families.

Programs
Description
The Together We A.R.E. Program is named after Alan Rodriguez, who has defied the odds by fighting his own disability, Wilson's Disease. Alan is the heart of this program because of his willingness to share his photography talents for those in need.

Care2Tri has learned a lot from watching Alan and has decided to focus on finding individuals with disabilities who have a need and then help raise funds and awareness for that need. We achieve our goal by participating in athletic endurance events with adaptive athletes to give them the opportunity for public attention and to provide a forum through which we can raise funds to meet their need.
Budget $30,000
Category Civil Rights, Social Action & Advocacy, General/Other Disabled Persons' Rights
Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Yes
Population Served General/Unspecified Females Females
Short Term Success
The program was initiated in 2013 when we set up a fund raising / awareness event for Lillie Redmon and her daughter, Antoinette. Antoinette is a 15-year old with severe Cerebral Palsy. Her parents live on one income and could not afford a new wheelchair or a wheelchair accessible van.
Long Term Success
In the long term, we want to utilize Together we ARE in order to help the numerous medical and financial burdens that we have found that the families of those with disabilities suffer.
We believe that we can not only bring awareness by including disabled individuals in races, but we can go one step further and raise the funds to provide them with a much needed piece of DME or medical assistance.
Program Success Monitoring Success of this program will be measured by the number of specific medical needs that we are able to meet. The event we staged for Antoinette at Reunion Resorts in Kissimmee, Florida was the first for Together We A.R.E. We raised enough money to provide Antoinette's family with a wheelchair accessible van and wheelchair on 9/13/13.
Program Success Examples Although the Together we ARE is a new Program, Care2Tri's main event of racing with individuals with disabilities has grown from 5 races in the Sarasota / Bradenton area, to more than 20 races state wide in 2012. For 2013 we will exceed this number and have also participated in five out-of-state races in Pennsylvania and Michigan. This program continues to make an impact on all who attend and continues to receive recognition as the first group to provide such an opportunity for adaptive athletes at many of the race series.
Description Care2Tri’s motto is simple, “get the focus off yourself, help others, and you’ll transform your own life.” The “Cause” You Care2Tri program is designed to help families that have suffered major trauma and need outside help. Our goal is accomplished through monthly Virtual 5K running events. For each event, we select an “inspirational family of the month” who benefits from the generosity and commitment of the virtual participants.

There is no a set race entry fee to participate, but there is a minimum donation, and participants may opt to donate more than the minimum.

We hope to inspire others to challenge and push themselves beyond their self-imposed limits. Those who used to run/walk may now have an incentive to start exercising again. Or those who are sitting on the couch and have always wanted to run or walk for 3.1 miles may now have an incentive to get up and get moving to help a family in need.
Budget $5,000

Short Term Success This program launched in 2017 with our first family, who needed funding for their daughter who suffered a stroke which rendered her with a permanent disablility due to locked in syndrome. We were able to raise $4532 for the family.
Long Term Success As the program grows, we hope to engage more community members in the virtual runs and find additional families to benefit from the funding.

Management Comments by Organization We have had a lot of success in our short existence.  We are currently working on a Strategic Plan and have a team of CEO's helping to develop this.  We understand that this is an integral part of any successful business and we will share upon completion.
Multi-Media Comments by Organization Care 2 Tri is on a mission to promote those who have been treated differently because of a disability. Please see some of our successes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnIhmH1PHBg&feature=youtu.be

We are fortunate to be able to impact the lives of these individuals, their families and all those who come in contact. We have been featured in many media stories and a national TV highlight of The Rev 3 Triathlon. We are sponsored by wonderful companies who believe in our mission such as Giant Bikes, Cliff Bar, Headsweats, Profile Design, Veloce Speedwear, Saucony Shoes, Oakley Eyewear.

We are looking forward to continuing our Together We ARE and Cause U Care Virtual 5k Programs in the upcoming years, so that we can impact a greater number of community who are in need of care or medical equipment/assistance because of their disability.

We will also launch our first Care 2 Tri R 5k in Lakewood Ranch on Nov 4,2017. The first of its kind, all inclusive race for both disabled and abled bodied participants alike.

Governance Comments by Organization We have not had any challenges with respect to governance issues.  Opportunities are strong.  We have had a lot of interest from community leaders to become involved with our non-profit, and more importantly, our board.  This is a huge opportunity to work with successful leaders who will be able to step in and join us on our mission.
