Guardian Angels is committed to the provision of safe and loving faith-based "traditional" foster homes and “Foster Family Homes” to help meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of abused, abandoned or neglected children. Each “Foster Family Home” is designed and constructed to provide a safe and loving environment for up to six foster children and hopefully render the extremely traumatic separation of larger foster sibling groups a painful relic of the past.

Background Statement
ln 2006, several members of the Manatee/Sarasota community came together with a concern for abused and neglected children who had entered the foster care system.  The number of hurting children continued to grow while the availability of foster homes was lagging far behind the need. Guardian Angels of S. W. FL, Inc. (GA) was incorporated soon thereafter in the hope of providing stable and loving living environments for these children.
By 2009, monies had been raised to purchase 7.3 acres in northern Manatee County that would eventually become the "Manasota Campus".  Realizing it did not have the expertise to staff, maintain and operate foster homes, the GA board entered a contractual partnership with Florida Baptist Children's Homes, (FBCH) a highly successful and respected provider of Christian foster care for over 110 years.
Since 2010, the partnership alliance between GA and FBCH has resulted in the recruiting, training, licensing and supervising of 3 Area Social Workers; the provision and supervision of numerous licensed faith-based "traditional" foster homes; loving care and shelter for many hurting foster children; and the adoption of a number of those children by loving Christian parents.
In addition, GA has solicited and raised the funds required to go toward the necessary site preparation of the "Manasota Campus" and construction of its first 2 "Foster Family Homes" which were completed  in July, 2013.  The third "Foster Family Home" was completed in 2015.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President
The dedicated volunteer Board of Guardian Angels has worked tirelessly  in an effort to provide loving faith-based foster care to needy and hurting children in Manatee, Sarasota and DeSoto Counties.  With support and backing from several charitable foundations, area churches and many individual donors, Guardian Angels, in partnership with Florida Baptist Children's Homes, has provided 3 full time Family Support Counselors  who recruit, train, license, supervise and support much needed foster parents and homes. GA has completed the construction of the first 3 "Foster Family Homes" on the "Manasota Campus".  These homes are capable of   providing loving care for up to 18 foster children.  Many of these precious children come from tragic circumstances, and it is a privilege to be a part of an organization such as Guardian Angels, the sole purpose of which is to provide these children with love, safety, security and the hope for a bright future.  We are excited to see the growth of the Manasota Campus as two additional "Foster Family Homes" will be constructed in 2017/2018.

Short Term Success The program has resulted in 62 children receiving excellent foster care in 19 licensed "traditional" foster homes, and 6 foster children have been adopted by loving parents.  Site preparation of the "Manasota Campus" and construction of its first 2 "Foster Family Homes" has commenced and is scheduled to be completed in January, 2013.
Long Term Success  Many hurting foster children will be provided safe, loving faith-based foster homes until they are reunified with a healthy family or adopted by loving "forever" parents.
Program Success Monitoring The Family Support Counselors, under the supervision and direction of the Florida Baptist Children's Homes,  keep detailed records concerning the care and needs of each foster child.  They coordinate with various social agencies to address each child's specific needs and regularly evaluate each child's progress.
Program Success Examples
Since Guardian Angels entered its partnership alliance with Florida Baptist Children's Homes in 2010, there has been steady growth in the number of foster homes and children we have been able to serve.  Our program is designed to recruit, train, license, equip and retain dedicated and loving foster parents who have the necessary skills to help heal the physical, emotional and psychological pain of hurting children and provide them with hope for a much brighter future.  The foster parents of one of our foster families have been recognized as "Foster Parents of the Year" by the Sarasota YMCA and recently stated that they would not have been able to foster over 30 children in the last three years without the training and support they received from our Area Social Workers.
Additional goals of our program are to encourage foster parents to care for children until permanency is reached and to keep sibling groups together.  Our success in this area is evidenced by the facts that 36 of the 37 children we have served this year have maintained their placement and 19 of the 20 sibling groups we are currently serving have been placed with their siblings.

Guardian Angels' goal is to meet the ever growing needs of foster children in Manatee, Sarasota and DeSoto counties, through the provision of Family Support Counselors who recruit, train, license and supervise foster parents.  There is always a need for additional foster parents and licensed homes.  GA will continue to raise funds to support our Family Support Counselors and add additional workers as needed.
Phase II of our capital campaign program, "Building Hope and Homes for Children", will allow us to build additional "Foster Family Homes" on the Manasota Campus as the necessary funds become available.
