Impact Statement
1. North River Care has two facilities. Our main center that focuses on students and clients whose primary language is English and a satellite center whose main focus is on our Spanish speaking clients.
2. We served a total of 198 individual clients in 2016 and 180 through September 2017 . We have had 1430 visits in 2016 and approximately 985 through September 2017.
3. Our clients earned over 1800 items this year to present by attending individual parenting, birthing and educational classes, doing homework, and participating in individual projects.
4. Our GED program began in late September of 2015 and as of October 1, 2017, we have had 16 graduates. We are currently enrolling new students for this year.
5. We have a good working relationship with our area schools, local migrant camps and area physicians so that they are confident in referring to North River Care.
Our upcoming goals would be:
1. To build self esteem in our clients through education, emotional and spiritual support and by walking side by side with them as they work toward realistic and reachable goals. Through all of that our goal is for them to be able to make good, educated and well thought out decisions that will break the cycle of depending on the “system” all of their lives. Every good move forward is to better their future and their baby’s future.
2. Reaching more clients with our programs before their second trimester.
3. To have more volunteers with specific “gifts” or talents that will enhance our education program.
Needs Statement
1. We need individual volunteer tutors to help our GED teacher with the increase in students.
2. For a “completion” or commitment to attending classes and learning we would like to offer a crib or car seat to our clients who may be in need financially.  The cost for this would be approximately $200.00 per crib or $75.00 per car seat.  We would like to have a fund of $5,000 set aside for this.
3. We need a paid nurse on staff to do ultrasounds, teach the medical components (first aid, infant CPR, recognizing sickness in your child, etc) and teach good nutrition in pregnancy.  This would be a part time position at a cost of approximately $10,000.
4. Many of our clients come in with specific needs. Mainly beds to sleep on and food to eat for themselves and their children. We would like to have a food closet and a resource that we can call to provide beds, cribs, and food when needed. We also want to have a cabinet stocked with juice and "easy" to fix food or snacks that they can eat while they are here.
Background Statement
North River Care, Inc. was birthed in August 1998 by the Manatee Southern Baptist Association and North American Mission Board to give women a safe, non-judgmental place to learn about their options and make an educated decision when face with an unplanned pregnancy.  We were considered a mission of the Manatee Southern Baptist Association until 2003 when we became our own corporation and held our own 501c3.  Since that time North River Care has been supported through individuals, church support through the Manatee Southern Baptist Association and ongoing fundraisers.  2005 was the first full year that we were an affiliate of Care Net National and base our education and resources on their programs.  In 2011 we opened our second center in downtown Palmetto and have been growing ever since.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President
North River Care, Inc believes in the sanctity of all human life and that is my belief as well.  From the moment of conception to the moment we take our last breath.  We are each created uniquely by God and He has a special purpose for each one of us.  We want everyone to know that they are loved and cared for no matter their situation, race, financial status or religion and we are there to stand beside each one of our clients and take this journey with them sharing the strength and love of Christ.
We have an abundance of community resources that we are able to share with them.  North River Care is there to help them with whatever their situation might be.  All of our services are free and confidential and we are there to serve the clients and their families or support people.  A pregnancy affects everyone whether it is planned or unplanned so North River Care is there to walk through it with them with a small amount all the way up to a large amount of support.  They do not have to face it alone and sometimes even in a crowd we might feel alone.  North River Care is there to walk through it with them. This organization is dear to my heart because we can share the love of Christ and save lives at the same time.
Statement from the CEO/Executive Director
North River Care, Inc. is there to help women who are facing an unplanned pregnancy understand all of their options.  We help them take the challenges that they feel may be forcing them to make certain decisions and find solutions to these challenges through resources, education, material support, encouragement and emotional and spiritual support.  This is all done in a safe and non-judgmental place as they work through their feelings of fear, anxiety and not knowing where to turn.
We offer them classes on all the stages of pregnancy.  What to expect through each stage, when to react and when to know that things are normal or not.  We work with them on having a healthy baby and being a healthy mom through their pregnancy.  We work with them on improving relationships with their family and/or significant other by learning to communicate and become more patient and tolerant of others.  These are all skills of a good parent and because many of our clients have never been in a “healthy” situation they will continue the cycle unless they learn otherwise.  We teach breast feeding and baby food preparation classes, we empower them with education, confidence and strength with knowledge and skills to be the parent that we know that they can be.  We teach them birthing techniques and help them to understand what happens when they go to the hospital.  We work with them on parenting skills so they know what to do when they bring their baby home.  We want them to feel confident and empowered by the knowledge and skills they have to be a great parent.
We also offer support and encouragement for those parents that choose the loving choice of adoption for their child.  We work with them on a weekly basis as they make choices for their child like a forever family.  We stand by them and commend and encourage them for as long as they need us too.
We have a registered nurse that comes in and does limited ultrasounds on a volunteer basis.  Our clients are able to get a positive result on a viable pregnancy.  This helps them to see that they are carrying and responsible for a life growing inside of them.  For many this helps them to begin better habits and choose wisely in order to have the best for their baby.  Our ultrasounds are done under the supervision of a doctor.  Our volunteer nurse also is able to do pregnancy tests that are accepted at other physician’s offices and the Department of Children and Families for Medicaid approval.  By offering this to our clients they are able to get care faster and begin a healthy pregnancy journey.

Short Term Success This year alone we have had 100 % success with all clients choosing life over abortion.  Short term we want them to learn about their options and make an educated choice as whatever their decision is it will affect them for the rest of their lives good or bad.  That leads to our longtime goal of life changes.
Long Term Success We are trying to stop the recurring cycle that brings girls into our center by them not having proper training to change the life choices they are making. 99.75% chose life after coming to the center.
Program Success Monitoring The success has been monitored by on going and reoccurring communication with the mothers until after birth and beyond.
Program Success Examples Since opening in 1998 over 2000 clients have been served. 700+ ultrasounds have been performed and since the time that the ultrasound has been used only 2 chose abortion.
Description  Classes are offered on an individual basis as needed. They may be offered as a group as deemed needed by the Executive Director. They might include Infant Massage, Nutrition, Parenting, Sibling Interaction, Baby Basics, Childbirth, Safety and Personal Growth. There are educational videos that are available for on-site viewing that include some of the following topics: prenatal care, labor, delivery, personal growth, and healing. We also offer hands on classes where they can put into practice the skills they have learned such as: Making homemade, nutritional baby food, Sewing a nursing pillow to assist and encourage breastfeeding and Getting to know your car seat and installing it into your car.

Short Term Success
Our short term successes will be a parent confident in the skills that they have learned such as car seat safety (being able to pick the appropriate seat for the child's age and size and use it correctly every time) or knowledge about the immediate upcoming childbirth( they will know what to expect and when to expect it and because they have the empowerment of knowledge and skills they will have a healthy and safe delivery) We hope to erase the fear and encourage the confidence in each of our clients.
Long Term Success
Our long term goal is that our clients will reach their personal goal that they have set by becoming a confident parent, a responsible parent and with some to possibly break a cycle they grew up with and begin to make better decisions focused on the best for their child and not so much as for them selves.
Program Success Monitoring
We have been told many times by nurses in delivery units that our clients understand what is going on in the delivery room and that they know what they need to do to deliver.  This is shown with a better attitude and desire to follow the process correctly.  Through the school liaison for pregnant teens we know that there are fewer repeat pregnancies from our clients and the percentage of them finishing school is higher.  Less than 1% of our clients since 1998 have had issues with child protective services because of parenting issues such as neglect or abuse.
Program Success Examples
We have been asked by the Florida Pregnancy Support Services Program to present our program to the pregnancy centers in Florida because of our success and interest by clients in our one to one, hands on classes.  Our local schools do not hesitate to share our education information with the students that come to them in a "crisis" or unplanned pregnancy.  We have referrals from Healthy Start Manatee and Healthy Families Manatee as well as referrals from our rural health community physicians and The Women, Infant and Children Program  (WIC) for nutrition.
Description  North River Care provides one-on-one mentoring for expectant and new mothers. The client can call upon a staff member (any time) to answer questions, provide guidance, offer support, and advice on day-to-day issues that come up with the client.

Short Term Success  By the end of 9 months the mothers-to-be should be more comfortable with the upcoming birth of their child and have some working knowledge of how to care for that child by having their questions answered and support given to them.
Long Term Success  The ultimate result that North River Care would like to see is that all the girls that have been helped continue on in a healthy relationship with their child (if they chose to keep the baby) or health emotionally if they chose to allow the child to be adopted. North River Care's clients have ranged in age from 11-46.)
Program Success Monitoring  Those working at North River have on going communication with the mothers-to-be and are involved enough with them on a consistent basis to know whether or not they are prepared for the future.
Program Success Examples
Our goal is to not solve the problem but assist them in working through it themselves. In all cases medical issues are advised to call a medical professional. For example: We recently had a client who needed to work but couldn't because she had no one to watch her child.  She was overwhelmed with all the new pressures and responsibilities so she just shut down and did nothing because she didn't know where to start.  She called and we listened to her challenges then helped her to prioritize them and decide where to start first. Many of our clients live in a chaotic situation but dream of a perfect life.  Sometimes as we walk through their problems or challenges together we can show them a balance of the two and encourage them if they want something different they can set realistic goals and through hard work reach many of them.  Our client now has a job, a place to live and daycare for her child.  And she is working on getting her GED so that she can make her outcome be closer to her dream.

Experience
Teri's education background is in special education and she has a passion for teaching others in ways that they can retain it and enjoy learning.  She retired from the Postal service where she served as a letter carrier, postal clerk and a supervisor. She became the volunteer director when the previous director needed to relocate in April of 2001 and became the full time Executive Director of North River Care in October of 2001.  During those years of Postal work and working for the Pregnancy Center she was a group leader for Girl Scouts, a Sunday School teacher, president of different booster programs for her children while they were in high school and college and has held various positions at her church.  She began her service at North River Care at it's inception in August of 1998 as the education director.
She is continuously seeking knowledge and updating her skills so that our clients at North River Care always have the most current and correct "best practice" information.
She has a passion for life from the moment of conception until we are each called home to our eternity and loves to share about how the strength and love of Jesus Christ can see you and carry you through anything.  She uses that faith and belief to encourage and teach our clients how to become good parents and make better choices for their children and for themselves.  She is a firm believer that with the support and encouragement from someone who cares people begin to feel better about themselves and begin to want to make changes in their lives through education, hard work and good choices.

Healthy Teens Manatee is the agency that is handling all funds raised or donated by fundraisers or private individuals that need to be paid to Manatee Technical College for tuition and teacher's salary. Early Coalition is working with us to provide daycare at a very reduced cost for each student so that they can come to school 20 hours per week.
