Impact Statement

Dial Hope is a non-profit, 24-hour global telephone and internet ministry providing daily faith-based, non-denominational messages of encouragement, inspiration and care. Our daily message can be enjoyed as a daily meditation, however special emphasis is provided for those facing illness, grief, sadness, despair, job loss and financial stress, and in support of military chaplains, service men and women and their families.

Accomplishments:

1) Published a Lenten Devotional booklet for the 2016 Lent season.

2) Created Spanish bookmarks with Dial Hope messages in Spanish.

3) Held a successful fundraiser luncheon in Sarasota, FL.

4) Increased our email followers to over 400 on a daily basis.

5) Collaborated with several local churches to distribute our devotional material and contact information.

Goals:

1) Maximize the number of people helped by Dial Hope

2) Reaching out to the Spanish speaking community by having a daily Spanish message.

3) Reaching out to the younger generation by greater social media presence.

4) Collaborating with groups such as Hospice, long term care facilities, hospitals and any other organizations in need of comfort and hope during difficult times.

5) Develop a greater awareness of Dial Hope through congregational relationships with pastors and churches of all denominations.

Needs Statement

1) Although we started as a phone ministry, currently half of our messages are delivered through our current website or by email. We currently need an updated website to include both English and Spanish messages, modern features to help bring in younger generations by linking more to social media. By hiring a new web designer to redesign and modernize our website, we hope to accomplish all the above. Cost of new website development: $6000 / Ongoing annual web management: $3000

2) Community Outreach - Printing devotional booklets containing our inspirational messages that we distribute at local facilities such as churches, retirement homes, hospice, meals on wheels and the Salvation Army. Our booklets are especially important to those who may not have access to a phone or the internet. Cost: $2000

3) Printing booklets and other devotional materials in Spanish to distribute to Spanish speaking community. Cost: $1000-$2000

4) Upgrading our phone system to have an option for English or  Spanish message.

Background Statement

The Dial Hope outreach ministry was launched on September 10, 2000. The idea was borne of a need Rev. Dr. Roger Kunkel personally felt, suffering from an illness while in Duluth, Minnesota, where he was the senior pastor of a large congregation. One night around 3:00 am, he awoke with severe pain, and realized that he had no one to call at that hour. Realizing that many other people face that same dilemma, whether because of illness, grief, sadness, financial stresses, or because of life's many other situations, he began to develop this ministry of outreach, providing hope, support, care and inspiration.

After Rev. Kunkel’s passing in 2011, Rev. Joe Albright, then the Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Sarasota, took over this ministry. Today Dial Hope continues to spread "Ripples of Hope” across the country. Rev. Joe Albright continues to write and record daily messages. In addition, we have about 15 regular guest pastor contributors. They live all over the nation and represent different denominations. They bring unique perspectives on life and faith, and are a huge blessing.

One of the great things about Dial Hope is that we are able to share a word of hope with people in all different places on the journey of life at any given moment. We reach people of different faiths from all over the country and women and men in the armed forces overseas. We reach some people who use us as a daily devotional to strengthen their spiritual life. We reach other people who don’t go to church but who are spiritually seeking. We reach still others who are going through in difficult times, people in the hospital and in nursing homes.

Statement from the CEO/Executive Director

As a Presbyterian Minister, one of the things I love about Dial Hope is that it allows us to share a word of hope with people all over the world beyond the walls of the local church, in all different places on their life’s journey, at any given moment.

We reach people of many different denominations and of no denomination at all. We reach people who use it as a daily devotional to strengthen their spiritual life. We reach other people who don’t go to church, people who are skeptical of institutions but who are spiritually seeking. We reach others still who are going through difficult times. We minister to women and men in the armed forces, people in the hospital and in nursing homes.

It continues to be a tremendous blessing to me to hear from people, from all over the country and even abroad, whose lives we have touched. I am particularly grateful to hear from military personnel who have used us as a resource. And it is beautiful because it is a free resource.

Today, although we still receive over 2200 calls a month, we are becoming more and more an internet based ministry. We are currently working to expand this aspect our ministry. We hope to add audio and even short videos to our website and social media platforms. We also plan to become completely bilingual (English and Spanish) by the end of 2017.

We want to make sure that we don’t miss any opportunities to share God’s love and grace and offer a word of hope to anyone under any circumstances. And to that end, we invite you to partner with us.

Grace and Peace,

Joe Albright
