Background Statement
Suncoast Charities for Children was formally known as the Suncoast Foundation for the Handicapped, Inc.  rebranding its name in 2010.  It was created as a separate charity providing funding support to Suncoast Foundation for Handicapped Children, Inc. due to liability purposes associated with the Grand Prix Boat Races. So many area special needs clients benefit from various programs/services offered at these facilities which the non-profits occupy for only a dollar per year.  Continued financial support from Suncoast Charities for Children helps to maintain these aging facilities through grants to the Suncoast Foundation for Handicapped Children, Inc. so that the non-profits occupying these buildings can earmark their program and service money directly to clients who need it the most.

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President
"The success of Suncoast Charities for Children is two-fold. First, the charity provides financial support through annual grants that support over 8,000 clients with special needs within five area non-profit agencies.  Secondly, since this fundraising is done through special events, an economic impact of over $40 Million is generated for the local Sarasota Community. Our challenge, is knowing that special events reach a financial threshold, so garnering additional financial support from individual donations (not affiliated with a special event) helps ensure our continued level of funding for those in need." - Jack Cox, Board President
Statement from the CEO/Executive Director
"Over the years, thanks to financial grants from Suncoast Charities for Children to the Suncoast Foundation, five local non- profit agencies occupy campus facilities virtually rent free for only $1 per year.   Suncoast Charities for Children also provides any necessary maintenance and repairs to these aging facilities at no cost to the agency. This ensures that program and service funding remains untouched and can go directly to the clients." - Lucy Nicandri, Exec. Director

Short Term Success Short term success is for a continuation of grants from Suncoast Charities for Children to be made in support the Suncoast Foundation for Handicapped Children, Inc. for maintenance and repairs to aging facilities currently occupied by area non-profit agencies.  This is critical so that program and service funding can go directly to the clients they serve who need it the most.
Long Term Success Long term success is that clients (regardless of their income level) are able to receive the services they need on a sliding pay scale, to provide independence among all clients (children, teens, adults), to mainstream as many school age children as possibly with their typically developing peers, and for those who cannot be mainstreamed to provide a safe place to live and learn throughout their life span.
Program Success Monitoring Suncoast Charities Board of Directors and the Suncoast Foundation for the Handicapped Board of Directors periodically review outcome measurements from various non-profit agencies that occupy the facilities that have been constructed.
Program Success Examples Approximately 8,000 clients are served annually. Among those receiving early intervention/early childhood education 85% have exhibited school readiness with their typically developing peers.  Those with severe special needs approx. 95% have exhibited independent living skills and are able to enjoy safe housing.
