Impact

The impact of Venice Christian School is subtle yet profound. While Venice Christian School continues to expand to meet demands for quality education, its graduates go on to college to become respected professionals and business leaders or to become qualified tradespeople. Graduates typically are model citizens, loving spouses and functional parents. In addition to performing well in academics, current students are quietly involved in community service at retirement facilities and churches and charities and work in trusted capacities in local businesses. This year construction was completed on a large new building that houses a Gymnasium and  five classrooms and enrollment has increased correspondingly so that the local community can continue to be served. Standardized test scores continue to be above National Norms. Our sports teams are competitive and even our Kindergartners run 3 miles in our annual Victory Run.

Background

More than 25 years ago, a group of local parents and teachers met to discuss their vision for a Christian school in the Venice area. They strongly believed that integration of faith and learning was essential for excellence in education. In the fall of 1987, Venice Christian School (VCS) opened its doors to area students, making their dream a reality.

Today, VCS is fully accredited and recognized as one of the most outstanding private schools in the area, according to the Florida Council of Private Schools. More than 260 students from Sarasota to Port Charlotte attend VCS, from preschool to 12th grade. VCS has remained an independent, not-for-profit school, with students representing more than 40 area churches.

In our more than 25 year history, VCS has earned numerous awards and accolades. However, the true measure of our success is how the school is dramatically changing the lives of students and, in turn, impacting our world for Christ. Ultimately, that is what sets the standard for all that we do.

Each of our dedicated teachers is handpicked and consider teaching their ministry. All are certified by the State of Florida or through the Association of Christian Schools International. VCS considers itself to be blessed to have them here at the school.

VCS provides a well-rounded college preparatory curriculum designed to develop the whole child intellectually, spiritually, socially, and physically. The program is challenging yet flexible, in order to meet individual needs. In addition to core subjects in math, science, language arts, history and the Bible, students receive instruction in foreign language, technology, art and art history, music, drama, debate and physical education. Advanced High School students may take honors classes and Dual Enrollment at State College of Florida.
Needs

Technology: VCS continues to furnish all classrooms with "Smart Boards" and computers to upgrade technology.  Estimated Cost of four additional installed “Smart Boards” and four additional networked computers is $16000. Scholarships: Families with children and limited funds seek admission throughout the year. Ten Scholarships valued at $5500 each. Physical Plant: Funds are needed for lockers and benches in the Boys and Girls shower areas in the new Gym. VCS is currently raising money through fundraisers but still needs $8000. Student Services; The VCS Student Services Program continues to expand and seeks to meet the unique needs of diverse learners.  “Student Union, or library type” seating is needed for small group learning for our High School and Middle School students and a kidney shaped table is needed by Speech, Occupational, and Learning specialists. Total cost for these products is $3700.00 VCS also offers a multi-sensory processing program to students with documented deficits. The cost per child is $1500 and we would like to provide two scholarships this year. Library: Also funds are needed to renovate the existing library space to include reading chairs and tables and to purchase library systems and equipment. Estimated Cost is $4500

Statement from the CEO/Executive Director

As Principal of Venice Christian School for the last 13 years, I am honored to be able to be part of a 25 year story that continues to unfold—one that only God could reveal. I am at the same time proud of our students and graduates and their accomplishments, and humbled by the qualifications and devotion of the teachers and staff. I am thankful for the parents and families and their contributions of time and money. Our expansion plans to build and furnish a gymnasium and additional classrooms have borne fruit and will serve to answer the call for Christian education in theVenice area. As we move forward I pray that we will be able to continue our legacy of academic excellence and service to the community.

Jerry Frimmel, VCS Principal

Statement from the Board Chair/Board President

At Venice Christian School, our challenge is to provide a high-quality Christian education to the children of Venice area families at a reasonable cost. Our vision is to prepare our children for a voyage that we cannot take—into the future. Accordingly we must point the way and build a foundation so as to equip them and prepare them for life’s challenges. We will strive to achieve this by setting and meeting high standards and by hiring and retaining qualified, caring and energetic teachers and staff. We all “drink from wells we did not dig and travel on roads we did not build”. As such, the Venice Christian School Board feels we are charged with the responsibility for developing Christian educational opportunities in the Venice area. With God’s grace, we can expand and meet enrollment demands in a way that honors God and our Community.

Description
Academics: VCS offers a college preparatory curriculum which provides both the breadth and depth required for a well-rounded education.  Our Christ-centered curriculum  is hands-on, interactive, and individualized. In addition to programs in math, science, language arts, social studies, and foreign language, the educational experience is further enhanced by courses in computers, journalism, art and art history, music, debate and drama. Courses are taught by degreed and certified teachers in small classes. High school students may pursue Dual Enrollment at local colleges as well as supervised on-line and virtual courses.

Sports:
Students participate several times weekly in physical education learning sports skills that stress fitness and agility while encouraging lifelong participation. The importance of being a team player is emphasized with sportsmanship both on and off the field. Win or lose, God gets the glory.

Religious and Spiritual Development:
VCS offers a Biblical Worldview in its approach to education. The context of God's Word is explored in every subject, from science and math to history and language arts. All students have a class in Bible each day. Students participate in weekly chapel services, and other religious activities.

Extracurricular Activities and Community Involvement: In keeping with our philosophy of building character in our students, VCS offers many after school activities such as clubs and community service.Students are encouraged to be active contributors to the Community.

Student Resources: VCS has a small highly effective program for students with special needs, administered by specially qualified and motivated teachers. We utilize a well established and highly regarded proprietary phonics-based program  for children with learning disabilities, dyslexia, high functioning autism and ADHD.

Short Term Success
Short term success will be measured by student grades, scores on standardized achievement tests, percent of students advancing in grade, percent of graduates who will attend college, as well as awards received by students, and success in interschool competitions and sports.
Long Term Success
A school is only as good as what its students and graduates do and produce. Venice Christian School aspires to have its students become model citizens and its graduates be functional Christian parents, businessmen and businesswomen, professionals and tradesmen who are pillars of the Venice Community.
Program Success Monitored By
Our success will be measured by our reputation in the Community and parental  approval as well as accreditation status as determined by the Florida Council of Private Schools and the Association of Christian Schools International. While we wish to meet all demands for student enrollment, we see increased demand as a strong indicator of success.
Examples of Program Success
Venice Christian School is growing despite economic headwinds.(In the past three years enrollment has increased from 215 to over 250 students) Parents acknowledge God's hand in the education and development of their children.
Scores on standardized tests which are substantially above National norms, show that the content and style of teaching at VCS are successful. Further, all of our High School graduates have gone on to higher education.
